Quest launches performance-tuning suite
May 16 — Quest Software has introduced Quest Central for J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition), a set of tools that detects, diagnoses, and resolves performance issues. Three tools make up Quest Central for J2EE: Foglight, a monitoring product that monitors every component affecting application performance; PerformaSure, a J2EE diagnostic tool for analyzing live transactions in distributed systems; and JProbe, a performance-tuning toolkit for optimizing Java application code.
Fair Isaac updates Blaze Advisor
May 16 — Blaze Advisor 5.0 is the new release of Fair Isaac's business rules management software. Written in Java, the software system develops, tests, deploys, and maintains business rules. Version 5.0 features the ability to build graphical representations of decision trees, showing paths of decisions leading to one or more business actions.
Novell ships exteNd Application Server 5
May 16 — Novell's exteNd Application Server provides a foundation for deploying applications built with the Novell exteNd Web application development suite. The server features a robust deployment platform, high-productivity development tools, and support for the latest industry standards.
Teamstudio enhances audit tool
May 16 — Teamstudio has launched Edition 3 of Teamstudio Analyzer for Java, its best-practices audit tool for Java developers. Edition 3 includes an automatic fix feature and 192 rules that address coding issues such as standards compliance, unused elements, common coding errors, and J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) compliance.
toolsfactory introduces class visualization tool
May 16 — toolsfactory has announced ClassViz, a tool for class hierarchy visualization and printing. The tool parses any Java source code and development projects, and visualizes class hierarchies.
PASSOLO Add-In now available
May 16 — PASS Engineering has introduced a new PASSOLO Add-In. The tool offers extended localization support for Java software.
Kobu.Com announces free Java chat program
May 16 — Kobu.Com has released HonkyTalk, a free Java application that enables voice conversation over the Internet between two or more PCs.
Borland releases JBuilder 9
May 9 — The latest version of JBuilder, Borland Software's IDE, includes Optimizeit Suite 5.5, Borland's performance assurance solution. JBuilder 9 also includes StarTeam for version control and configuration management capabilities, the Together Edition modeling tool, enhanced Web services support, and an integrated solution for building mobile Java applications for MIDP (Mobile Information Device Profile) devices.
Q-Link enhances J2EE platform
May 9 — Q-Link has introduced version 5.0 of its application development platform for developing J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) applications. Q-Link 5.0 includes a new application model with an abstraction layer that enables developers to visually assemble complete applications based on business constructs, not J2EE code; a suite of integrated business process management services; and an architecture built on J2EE, XForms, and XPath.
Jini Decision Process approves first standard
May 9 — The ServiceUI API has been approved by the Jini Decision Process (JDP). Contributed by Artima Software and developed by more than 40 Jini community members, ServiceUI provides a standard for attaching user interfaces to individual Jini-based services.
Sunopsis updates data integration tool
May 9 — Sunopsis is a 100 percent Java data integration product that addresses data replication, data synchronization, ETL (extraction, transformation, and loading), data warehousing, and application integration needs. Version 3.1 automatically detects changes in the data sources, supports SAP and Oracle applications, and features a workflow design and visualization module.
Daffodil Software announces database products
May 9 — Daffodil Software Limited has released Daffodil DB Embedded Edition 2.0 and Daffodil DB Network Edition 2.0. Daffodil DB is an embeddable and lightweight Java-based relational database engine built in compliance with SQL 99 and JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) 3.0.
Dirig updates performance management platform
May 2 — Dirig 4.0 is a Web application performance management solution from Dirig Software. This latest version introduces Dirig Performance Center for graphical monitoring of applications with one view. Dirig 4.0 also includes updates to Dirig PathFinder and Dirig Agent.
EJB Solutions enhances Out-of-the-Box
May 2 — Out-of-the-Box 2.0 is now available from EJB (Enterprise JavaBeans) Solutions. The open source development and deployment environment for Java developers includes a new graphical installer for selective and incremental installation/uninstallation, built-in project knowledge base, 350-page user guide, and more.
Koalog Code Coverage analyzes test suite efficiency
May 2 — Koalog has announced Koalog Code Coverage 1.1, a code coverage computation application written in Java. The tool allows developers to measure test suite efficiency and discover dead code in a project.
Xoetrope launches mobile/desktop framework
May 2 — XUI 1.0, an open source Java framework for building lightweight mobile and desktop applications, is now available for download.
Clustered JDBC now available
May 2 — ObjectWeb has released Clustered JDBC, open source Java middleware that offers transparent database clustering through Java Database Connectivity.
Manning launches electronic book subscription
April 25 — Manning has introduced a new program where subscribers can download chapters of books as they are completed. The Manning Early Access Program (MEAP) also delivers a complete PDF version of the book once it is finished. Currently, MEAP is offering Eclipse in Action by David Gallardo, Ed Burnette, and Steven Haines. The book discusses how to build, test, and debug applications using Eclipse tools and third-party applications. MEAP subscribers can begin downloading chapters now; a paper edition will be available in June.
Transcription Portlet now available on IBM alphaWorks
April 25 — The Transcription Portlet voice portlet transcribes telephony-based dictation and makes large-vocabulary speech recognition technology available to telephony-based portal applications. Developers can use Transcription Portlet's Java APIs to integrate transcription capabilities into a portlet application.
Borland and Recursion combine technologies
April 25 — Borland Software has integrated Recursion JGL into its Together technology. Recursion JGL (Java Generic Libraries) is an extension to the JDK from Recursion Software. The companies integrated their products to help accelerate development time and the application development lifecycle.
Innoopract announces new development tools
April 25 — Innoopract has released W4 Toolkit 2.0 and W4 Designer 1.0. W4 Toolkit is the company's Java Web front-end component library, and W4 Designer is its companion GUI (graphical user interface) builder. These two tools can be integrated into all IDEs and Java Web application servers.
Ervacon introduces XNam
April 25 — Ervacon has released XNam JNDI (Java Naming and Directory Interface) service provider. XNam provides Java applications with a naming service, accessible through the JNDI interface, that reads application information from XML files.
Glue 4.0 Web services platform released
April 25 — Glue 4.0 is now available for download from the Mind Electric. The tool lets Java developers build applications using Web services, servlets, and JSP (JavaServer Pages).
