Amazon has been busy tonight. After announcing the Kindle Fire HDX, which has some amazing specs, especially for the price points it’s hitting. Now Amazon has taken the drapes off of Mayday. Which is their answer to the Apple Genius Bar. For those of you that don’t know about the Genius Bar, Amazon is basically including live tech support in the new Kindle Fire HDX. Sounds good, right?

This new service, Mayday, is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Personally, I wonder how this is going to work the day after Christmas. I know these tech support guys are going to be so busy. Anyways. Amazon has added a dedicated button found in the tablets quick settings menu. Just tap on that button, and you’re being connected with a live support representative in less than 15 seconds. Now that’s pretty fast. This might be one of the best features of the new Kindle Fire HDX. Now the Snapdragon 800 is definitely a good feature or spec as well.

Once you’re connected, you’ll be able to see the support representative in a small window on their screen, and the representative will be able to see whatever app or screen is on your tablet. Amazon also said that while you can see the rep, the rep cannot see you. These support techs are able to guide users with visual cues and auditory prompts, and if those fail, they can even control the tablet remotely to resolve the issue.

This is definitely a feature that I wish more manufacturers would add into their tablets. Since not everyone that buys tablets knows everything about Android or their hardware, like we do. And instead of having my mom or dad call me everytime they have a question, they can just tap on Mayday and talk to Amazon’s tech support. Sounds like a win/win situation for me.
