Data scientists and artificial intelligence (AI) play a strong part in the fintech ecosystem on a global scale and increasing so in the current challenges of COVID-19. The FinTech Times speaks with a data scientist and AI expert, Dr. Inma Martinez who is currently based in London.

After a career in banking (Goldman, Sachs), Inma Martinez joined telecom giant Cable & Wireless to become the Global Head of IP services in the late 1990s, just when digitalisation and the Internet were emerging. Shifting to entrepreneurship in 2000, she has been directly behind the development of mobile Internet services, AI personalisation and prediction of consumer behaviours, video and music streaming, intelligent wearables, the connected car and smart living. Considered a proven and industry-recognised technology pioneer, very early in her career she was described by Fortune and TIME as one of Europe’s top talents in social engagement through technology, while FastCompany labelled her a “firestarter” at their event Fast Talk Forum (11/2000).
Dr. Martinez was a keynote speaker at the recent 4th MEA Fintech Forum. The event was hosted by Bank ABC, a leading leading international bank in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and held under the patronage of the Central Bank of Bahrain brought together financial regulators, regional banking CEOs and heads of challenger banks who were joined by leading international experts and over 2000 delegates on a virtual platform to carve out a path to recovery and explore how digital innovation, AI and data science will shape the new age of banking.
Themed ‘Banking Beyond Digital’, the Forum’s expertly curated agenda saw two days of stimulating discussions on nine pertinent subjects impacting the industry today, namely: 2021- Path to Recovery, Bank of the Future, Regulation in the Digital Age, Sustainability & Inclusion, Digital Payments, the Digital Ecosystem with a focus on China, Digitals Currencies, and the top of mind threat, Cybersecurity.
