A Little Thank You Goes a Long Way

Today, I received an email from my best friend thanking me for always being there for her and supporting her. It was one of the most genuine and heartfelt emails I had ever received and it came completely out of the blue.

I loved receiving this — it’s a gesture of thanks for the love and care invested in others. For a few years, I used to write Christmas cards to past bosses, family members, and professors to give them a little update on my life and how I couldn’t have gotten to where I am today without them. We are sum of those individuals that we surround ourselves with and yet we seldom recognize and thank them for the time and energy they put forth.

So, I started sending out some emails of my own to thank various people in my life and picked up the paper and pen and started writing a few letters. I’ve already gotten a few beautiful responses and I hope that this action compels others to do the same and give thanks to those who they have been affected by.

Today’s Commitment

Give thanks. Tell people in your life that you love them and appreciate the things that they do for you. Write it down so they can save it — it’s a beautiful thing.

Note: Go into this with an open heart, I was so surprised when I burst into tears writing one of these as I realized how much this person had done for me and that I had never put how much I appreciate them into written words, before.
