In 2013 a new method of hacking was discovered and determined to be a wide-spread problem. ShellShock is a flaw in the underlying programming which makes the BASH shell vulnerable to being taken over. This flaw is inherent in many private and enterprise computers, particularly Unix or iOS machines hosting websites. Also called the Bash Bug, ShellShock is a virus which allows a hacker access to the command prompt. This is the window highly skilled computer users can use to issue commands. If hijacked, a hacker can configure your website to capture passwords or launch attacks on visitors.
