If you want to make a superhero suit, spandex isn’t the only option. Sam, also known as Fangirl Physics, recently completed a Captain America costume by knitting it. Yes, she knit this entire suit. She’s only been knitting for about a year, but she clearly has serious skills. I couldn’t imagine knitting anything more complicated than a sweater, but she made the suit with all the stripes and stars and added gloves, boots, and a hood. She used Red Heart acrylic yarn and simply knit boxes with a knit stitch to make each piece. She then sewed the various sections together. She explains:
Each individual knitted piece was hand sewn to other pieces (Such as where the the white part and blue part of the sleeves connect). For most of the cosplay (besides the belt, some parts of the star, and mask/hood), I only used a knit stitch. The belt and hood were made using a loom. I used a knitting pattern I found online.
See the Captain America costume come together piece by piece at Sam’s Facebook page.
