In 2018 Dewalt introduced a battery powered cable stapler as part of their 20V Max line and now two years later Milwaukee follows suit with their own battery powered cable stapler as part of the M12 line with the Milwaukee M12 Cable Stapler 2448-21 .

Milwaukee’s battery powered M12 cable stapler makes attaching electrical cables such as Romex easy without the hassle of manually using a hammer and fumbling with a cable and staple in one hand and a hammer in the other hand. This electric stapler also makes it easier to fasten electrical cable in hard to reach areas.
With the introduction of the M12 Cable Stapler, users now have a compact, battery powered NM-B cable sizes (14, 12, 10 AWG) and variations (single or double-stacked).
The primary difference between this model and the Dewalt is that the Milwaukee does the same with less voltage on the M12 12 volt battery which is actually 10.8 volts. While the actual baretool weight is similar to the Dewalt, the Milwaukee can technically be lighter when a compact 12 volt battery is installed versus a slightly heavier slimpack 20V battery pack. The overall design of the Milwaukee is very similar to the Dewalt with a long tall body design and short head. It’s hard to tell but it appears that the Milwaukee’s cable stapler head might be a smidge shorter than the Dewalt but it’s really hard to tell especially since Milwaukee hasn’t announced length numbers while the Dewalt has at 7.75″.
Milwaukee’s cable stapler is said to have dry fire lockout which helps stop firing blanks when the magazine is out and while both the Dewalt and Milwaukee have side windows on the magazine to show if the magazine is low, the Milwaukee’s magazine has three additional windows for a total of 4 to better keep track of remaining staples. Both have built in LED lights and reversible belt clips while the Milwaukee has a built in fuel gauge on the tool itself. It’s not really a bonus since M12 batteries do not built in fuel gauges and are found on most M12 tools while most Dewalt 20V batteries have fuel gauges on them.
Both are said to be compatible with their own branded 1″ insulated cable staples with a box of Milwaukee branded staples shown above. Milwaukee’s cable stapler is said to only be compatible with their own brand of staples.
Milwaukee has kind enough to show us this new tool way before launch and they say it will be available in the first half of 2022.
