Retiring Soon: LEGO Running Down Star Wars Sets
There comes a time in the life of every LEGO Star Wars set that they have to face the fact that their time has come and they get tagged with the dreaded yellow rectangle that tells the world that they it is Retiring Soon, and will soon be at one with the Force.
Generally speaking, any particular set – whether it is Star Wars, City or the latest Creator Expert modular build – will be around for 18 to 24 months before their stocks are depleted enough to warrant being flagged as Hard To Find before getting tagged as due for retirement.
To help out their customers, LEGO periodically emails out reminders of those sets that will drop out of production – and their latest mailshot to share word that the following LEGO Star Wars sets are going to disappear in the near future. This year has been different, with the COVID-19 pandemic causing movie tie-in sets like Minions: The Rise of Gru, Trolls World Tour and WW84 to get short-stocked, pulled from shelves, or even remain un-released until their premiers can be confirmed.
In addition, the massive rise in the popularity of LEGO with more people finding indoor activities due to social gathering restrictions has meant that stocks have been depleted far ahead of schedule, meaning that the automated systems behind LEGO.com aren’t flagging the fact that the set has sold out long before the prescribed retirement date.
It’s been a good year for LEGO sellers but a tough one for bargain hunters. How has your year been?
