Edgewater apartment building evacuated as police arrest “armed and dangerous” fugitive
A three-story apartment building was evacuated Wednesday evening in Edgewater as police served an warrant on a fugitive considered “armed and dangerous.”
The fugitive that was in the apartment building was soon after taken into custody by the Jefferson Country Regional SWAT Team.

The Jefferson County SWAT team and Edgewater police had previously issued a stay-in-place directive for a 1/4 mile radius in the 6900 block of West 25th Place, police said before the fugitive was taken into custody. The “high risk” warrant was being served at about dusk in frigid weather, with temperatures in the low 20s.
People evacuated from the apartment building were given and option to stay warm at a local school, police said. The fugitive was described as a parole violator.
