70 Year Old Woman Went Sugar Free 28 Years Ago, Here’s What She Looks Like Today
Sugar is in everything in today’s society. From our favorite food and drinks to even a lot of the vitamins we are supposed to take, sugar has creeped it’s way into just about every type of food source we put in our body, especially in the western world.
I know I’m one of those people who have their daily sugar drink, but after hearing Carolyn Hartz story, I think I may have to re-think my whole way of looking at my life and diet.
Carolyn was one of those regular people who didn’t pay much attention to her sugar in take, but was able to learn to cut it out in her adult years. Carolyn decided to take sugar completely out of her diet of 30 years ago, and now at the age of 70, looks incredible, and far healthier than other women or men her age.
Carolyn believes that everyone needs to take the steps to make a positive difference in their own lives and hopes her story is inspiration for those to know that it’s never to late to do something good for yourself. Not only is she healthier than most people who are even much younger than her, Carolyn’s diet along with exercise has given her a wonderful figure other would “die” for.
If you can’t really believe that Carolyn is 70, don’t worry, you’re not the only one, she has a hard time convincing many people in her every day life as well.
That is why she founded the Australian company SweetLife, that she uses as a platform to tell her story and sell sugar-free products that hopefully will encourage others to live the sugar-free lifestyle she has lived for the past 30 years.
“A lot of women post 50 think that it’s not possible to maintain a reasonable shape and weight when they reach 50 or beyond,” Carolyn said, adding that, “while it may be ‘a little more difficult’ to stay in shape for women post 40, it can still be possible if you really want to work at it. We know our metabolism slows down as we get older it just means we have to take control and make healthier choices and work a little harder.”
“I believe it is very important to be aware of the type of food you eat and the quantity of food you eat. Being mindful while you are eating is a huge factor.Mindless eating can lead to unnecessary weight gain. I say to my customers ‘taste and enjoy every mouthful’… it will help you slow down and you will be less likely to overeat.”
Changing your diet as well as your attitude.
Carolyn attributes her beauty to her attitude almost as much as her diet. She looks at every day as a blessing and uses Meditation and gratitude in her routine daily to keep her a healthy 70 year old woman.
But when it comes to her diet regimen, Carolyn says cutting out sugar was by far the best decision she has ever made in her life.
“I have been sugar free for 28 years. It was difficult at first as I was a sugar addict but I believe it is one of the most important reasons I have been able to keep myself healthy and keep my body shape. I make sure I eat protein with every meal especially breakfast. It stops the cravings.”
Now, this does not mean that you need to deprive yourself of your favorite foods and drinks, starting today. If you can do it, that’s great for you, but for us sugar addicts, a gentle easing off period may help. Still eat your favor foods, but try smaller portion sizes at first, while you look for sugar-less alternatives.
Consistency matters, and Carolyn sticks to the same skin care regiment she used since she was 17.
“I never go to bed without cleansing and removing my make-up and I moisturize every night especially around the eyes and neck, I wear sunscreen everyday under my makeup and never sun bake. I am very aware of the damaging effects of the sun and I had this reminder when I had a cancer removed from my nose when I was only 30.”
Sleeping is important, and Carolyn sleeps 8 hours every night.
Stop comparing yourself to others
Although Carolyn looks to be a shining example of what a sugar-free life can give you, she wants it to serve as inspiration for others and not something you have to compare yourself to negatively if you don’t live up to a certain standard. She is a firm believer that negative thoughts and emotions like that can effect your mental and physical well-being.
Some other tips Carolyn wants to share with the world:
“Be aware of what you like about others and let them inspire you but remember that we are all individuals and we all have our own special traits…
Be happy for your friends successes, enjoy them together. Never be jealous or resentful, both are wasted emotions and only hurt your well-being.
Be happy for everyone and never worry about your age.”
Remember to live your life to its fullest!
“Don’t listen to the naysayers, be your own person. Attitude is your most important asset. Life is not perfect, accept this and grab it with both hands.”
