MyBroadband Ranks South Africa’s Best Internet Service Providers
Spoiler alert – it’s not Telkom.
Not to be that person, but if you’re still using Telkom to stay connected at home, you deserve to be called a Boomer.
(Never forget this Telkom in-store meltdown – it could be you next.)
Each quarter, MyBroadband rolls out its broadband and Internet Service Provider (ISP) report, ranking the best and worst that the country has to offer.
2020’s fourth-quarter report was published last week, based on more than 70 000 customer satisfaction ratings from South African broadband users between October 1 and December 31, 2020.
Remarkably, Telkom was actually ‘beaten’ in the race to last place, with the dubious honour going to Rain with a score of 5,42 out of 10.
Telkom came second last out of the large ISPs, scoring 5,50.
Turning our attention to the top of the MyBroadbrand ranking, and the top spot went to Cool Ideas, second to MTN, third to Afrihost, and fourth to RSAWEB.
It’s the last of those options that I am the most familiar with, and after a few years in the game, I’m still super stoked with my home fibre.
Basic uncapped packages start from around R595 a month (10Mbps), but each area has differing fibre networks operating.
To see which is available in your area, head here, click the blue ‘Check Availability’ button, and fill in your details:
Once you’ve done that, you can scroll through the options available in your area, and select the package which best suits your needs (and wallet).
Also, check the top of their home fibre page to see which specials are currently running.
