Advocates Respond to the Introduction of the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021
Yesterday, Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Rep. Linda Sanchez (CA-38) introduced the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 into Congress. This long-overdue comprehensive immigration reform bill – based on President Biden’s proposal – will create a pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants living and working in the United States.
After years of pushing lawmakers for progressive reform, many advocates expressed their joy at the introduction of this legislation and signaled a call to action for commitment and follow through of the President and Congressional leaders to get it passed.

Biden’s immigration bill is one step towards the reform that is sorely needed from our immigration system. Justice and family unity should be at the center of how we move forward, not continued harm towards vulnerable communities.#USCitizenshipAct

As an immigrant who earned citizenship at 21, and someone who benefitted from the 1980’s immigration bill, I could not be more excited by the #USCitizenshipAct. I especially want to thank my friend and mentor @RepLindaSanchez who is leading efforts in Congress. LFG.

Biden's path to undocumented citizenship is politically risky. But “many of these people are on the front lines, picking the food that we're eating,” says @pilitobar87, and “Covid has brought up the moral imperative for us to do something to bring these folks out of the shadows.” pic.twitter.com/0MUDcmmlOw
