Argos postpone flight to Ottawa for Friday’s preseason game due to CBA uncertainty: report

The Toronto Argonauts will not travel to Ottawa on Thursday as originally scheduled ahead of Friday’s preseason game, according to TSN’s Dave Naylor.

Hearing the @TorontoArgos have postponed tomorrow’s scheduled flight to Ottawa for their Friday preseason game against the @REDBLACKS. Team will wait for the @CFLPA to make a decision on league’s offer. If accepted, Argos will fly Friday day-of-game to Ottawa.

Toronto and Ottawa are scheduled to play the CFL’s first preseason game since 2019 on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET. Winnipeg and Saskatchewan were originally set to open the preseason on Monday but the game was rescheduled for May 31 after a tentative collective bargaining agreement was reached last week.

The CFL Players’ Association voted down the tentative agreement on Monday with changes to the ratio and the lack of a ratification bonus being identified as the primary reasons why.

The league has since made a new proposal to the players including a ratification bonus and changes to the ratio. It is set to expire on Thursday at midnight ET.

3DownNation‘s John Hodge has reported that the CFLPA executive has yet to present the CFL’s latest proposal to its player reps but is expected to do so on Wednesday evening.

The other preseason games slated to take place this weekend include Edmonton at Winnipeg (Friday, 8:30 p.m. ET), B.C. at Calgary (Saturday, 4:00 p.m. ET), and Montreal at Hamilton (Saturday, 7:00 p.m. ET). The Blue Bombers and Stampeders released statements on Wednesday expressing their optimism that the preseason games will go ahead as scheduled.
