Boss says 'fabulous' Nottingham Forest linked 28-year-old has 'Premier League quality'

Gary Rowett has heaped praise on Jed Wallace after the player was linked with a move to Nottingham Forest in January.

The 28-year-old has played his last game for Millwall with the player set to leave with his contract due to expire next month.

Wallace was heavily linked with Forest in January. Besiktas, Leeds, Middlesbrough and West Brom were also thought to be keen.

Now, he will choose the next chapter of his career and Forest are likely to remain in the mix to sign the winger.

Rowett thinks that someone will be getting a brilliant player on a free transfer and he is clearly a big fan of the player.

He told South London Press: He's earned the right with his performances over a long period of time. He's earned the right to have options this summer. Jed (Wallace) is a top-quality Championship player who, I know, can play at different levels of the game.

He will have options. It's up to him. He has to make whatever he thinks is the right decision. It will be difficult but good luck to him. I gave him a big hug in there - he's been fabulous for me. He's got Premier League quality and on a free, a lot of teams will look at him.

It's fair to say that Forest will face a fight to keep hold of Brennan Johnson, especially if promotion to the Premier League isn't secured.

As a result, a replacement will be sought; with Wallace looking like the ideal addition to Steve Cooper's forward line.

The experienced player scored 42 times and claimed 49 assists for Millwall in 260 appearances for the club.

He's been one of the standout performers in the second tier of the last five years and on a free transfer he will have offers galore.

Forest face losing several players in the summer with a couple of players being sold and the club's loan stars heading back.

Signing Wallace would soften that blow somewhat and the club simply has to make sure they sign the Millwall star in the coming months.
