Find State Fair Food Selections at Midtown Global Market
While the Minnesota State Fair is most well-known for its Midwest staples, there are a number of immensely popular food vendors with a more global perspective.
Beyond the world of corn, cheese curds, and chocolate chip cookies lie some of the Fair’s most interesting cuisine—think butter chicken samosas, piña coladas in a pineapple, camel on a stick, or al pastor tacos.
Midtown Global Market, a multicultural and international-inspired space that features a rotating list of vendors selling all types of food, drinks, and market goods, is profiling State Fair vendors from August 27 to September 6—what would have been the 2020 Fair dates.
Dubbed the Great Global Get-Together, the event will feature 16 vendors to satisfy any State Fair food lover. Almost every Midtown Global Market food vendor is participating in the event, offering special prices or unique fair-inspired food.
If you’re feeling full, there are also a number of product and service vendors that will be offering discounts on their international market goods.
The Midtown Global Market hopes that the event will aid in their mission to strengthen local Minnesota businesses and give the city’s international community a chance to share their culture.
To prevent against the spread of COVID-19, Midtown Global Market will follow the City of Minneapolis’ guidelines, which include limiting the number of guests inside the building, requiring masks, implementing social distancing, and more.
Here are the vendors and dishes that you can find at the Great Global Get-Together:
Pham’s Rice Bowl
The Asian eatery is treating their “Phamily” to a unique treat for the Great Global Get-Together. Pham’s Rice Bowl will be selling sweet and salty cranberry cream cheese wontons with a chocolate drizzle.
Eastlake Craft Brewery
Known for its eclectic brews, Eastlake Craft Brewery is offering a new dill pickle sour gose called Pick-a-Peck at the Midtown Global Market. The brew is the perfect briny complement to any deep-fried fair delight.
After immigrating from Somalia as a child, owner and chef Jamal Hashi opened Safari Express to introduce Minnesotans to classic East African cuisine. This year, Safari Express has Sambusa (triangle pastries with different fillings) and camel burgers available for Midtown Global Market customers.
For that classic Minnesota State Fair taste, Andy’s Garage is the perfect option. While they usually offer American breakfast staples, for the Great Global Get-Together, Andy’s Garage is selling an array of authentic Ellsworth cheese curds, corn dogs, mini burgers, fresh cut fries, and more.
Hot Indian Foods
With three permanent of locations around the Twin Cities, Hot Indian Foods can satisfy any craving for Indian street food. For this year’s event at Midtown Global Market, they’ll be offering their famous Kentikka fried chicken, chicken and veggie samosas, and bhel puri.
Grass Roots Gourmet
A true local market, Grass Roots Gourmet specializes in preserves, meats, cheeses, and more. At the Great Global Get-Together, they’ll be featuring Minnesota honey from Ames Farm, Bare Honey, and Beez Kneez.
InfusedLife Plant Based Eatery
For a break from all things fried, head over to InfusedLife Plant Based Eatery. They’ll be serving vegan walking tacos for the Great Global Get-Together.
Owner and chef of Manny’s Tortas Manuel Gonzalez wanted to bring the flavors of Mexico City to Minnesota. His booth at the State Fair has become wildly popular—he’ll be selling his non-alcoholic piña coladas in whole pineapples and his al pastor blue tacos.
Inspired by the cuisine of Northern Morocco, Moroccan Flavors offers a full menu of classic dishes. At the Great Global Get-Together, they’ll be featuring lamb shank, salad sampler, and chicken tagine (a Moroccan stew cooked in a dish of the same name).
Jakeeno’s Trattoria is the place to go for all things Italian food. Instead of their normal menu of soups, salads, and pastas, they’ll be selling pizza by the slice to celebrate the State Fair.
A self-proclaimed indoor farmers market, Produce Exchange will be offering their famous grilled peaches for the Great Global Get-Together. You can order the peaches in a variety of flavors—naked, yogurt and pie crumbs, or goat cheese and honey. New this year, you can get peaches and fresh vegan ice cream, as well as watermelon on a stick, and fruit and booch (Produce Exchange’s kombucha).
Salsa a la Salsa
Salsa a la Salsa brings central Mexican flavor to the Midtown Global Market. This year, they’ll be serving corn-on-a-stick, chorizo and nopales (cactus) tacos, and if you get thirsty, house-made margaritas.
Goods and Services
One of the service vendors included in the Great Global Get-Together, Dar Medina sells colorful Moroccan rugs and leather goods. They’ll be offering specials to celebrate the event.
Drawing from traditional Western and Eastern natural healing techniques, Herbal Alchemy is selling a bath and body gift pack, a $30 value, for $20.
Midtown Custom Souvenir and Gifts
For personalized souvenirs and gifts, check out Midtown Custom Souvenir and Gifts. To celebrate the Great Global Get-Together, they’ll be offering specials on T-shirts, hats, and face masks.
