First They Came is an RPG you play blindfolded
Set in Berlin in 1942, telling the story of those persecuted by the Nazi regime, First They Came is an RPG (or transmedia experience or LARP) from Chaos League that you play with a blindfold on.
The bold game invokes Martin Niemoller’s iconic quote, which ends, “Then they came for me – and there was no one left to speak for me” and is already funded. You can check out the current total, the remaining days on the clock and join in from the project page.
First They Came is designed for one-shot stories of about 2 to 3 hours, does not need a GM but is best with about 3 to 5 players.
Designed with original mechanics and transmedia materials, First They Came is one of a kind. You play in the dark or blindfolded, guided by audio tracks that reproduce the different environments in which the story unfolds. It is an immersive, touching experience that will allow you to live a deep and human experience.
Chaos League are based in Bologna, Italy, and the game will be available in English and Italian.
As the project has funded, we can expect life in 1942 Berlin for the resistance brought to life, five playable character types, flashback scenes, personal documents for each character and 13 different audio tracks.
I think First They Came sounds like an intense experience. Therefore, it’s pleasing to see it also comes with best practices and guidelines for playing in the dark and a safety guide.
The book that comes with the project is called an art book.
It’s a pledge of €10 to be a digital backer, which will get you the book’s PDF and the other material in electronic form.
You only need to step up to €20, which is about £18, to add the physical copy to your rewards.
A higher €50 tier also exists, including an online workshop on how to use the game in an education setting.
No matter which tier you pick, the expected delivery date is November 2021.
