Fun National Days in Each Month Worth Celebrating
Luckily, there’s an array of National “Days” each month that give you a reason to throw your hands in the air!
We picked one awesomely obscure National Day in each month that should be celebrated.
January 12 is National Kiss a Ginger Day!
The chances of being born with red hair are slim. While most have brown, green or hazel eyes, blue-eyed gingers make up just 1 percent of the world’s population.
Some famous redheads that many would be more than willing to kiss include Julianne Moore, Emma Stone and Conan O’Brien. And I’m sure all the gingers in your life will be more than welcome to an unsolicited kiss. Or not!
February 4 is National Thank a Mail Carrier Day!
Delivering the mail is such a thankless job. How often do you greet – much less thank – the person delivering your letters and packages? February 4 is the day to do it! You can thank them via social media with #ThankaMailCarrierDay.
Grammar Nerds unite on March 4 for National Grammar Day!
Every day is perfect for obnoxiously correcting someone’s grammar mistakes, but March 4 is the day you can actually get away with it!
April 16 – the day after Tax Day – is National Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day!
The title is self-explanatory but I really feel like this one needs to catch on. Wear your jammies and post to social with #WearYourPajamasToWorkDay.
May 27 is National Cellophane Tape Day!
This day is great because we absolutely need to celebrate the wondrous household item that’s key for wrapping the perfect gift. It also gave us this hilarious moment with Pee Wee Herman.
June 1 is National Say Something Nice Day!
Because if Bambi taught us anything, it’s “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all.” Say something nice, then share it on social media with #SaySomethingNiceDay.
July 7 is National Dive Bar Day!
If you’ve never been to a dive bar, then what the heck are you waiting for? Sure, they’re notoriously dirty, usually reek of cigarettes and I once went to one that had a shower curtain for a bathroom door, but dive bars almost always equal a good time. Cheap drinks and excellent people watching.
National Dive Bar Day was founded by Seagrams 7. Head to your favorite dive and post to social media with #NationalDiveBarDay to honor the big day.
I think this one wins for Most Obscure. It was created by Tom Roy at wellcat.com.
September 15 is National Felt Hat Day!
Yeah, also a thing. While National Calendar Day does not know of the specific origin of the day or how long ago it began, historically, people usually broke out their felt hats around this time of year as the weather became cooler.
October 8 is American Touch Tag Day!
Miss the days of playing tag at recess? This is the day to relive those childhood memories. Gather a group of friends for a game of tag and share your adventure on social media with #AmericanTouchTagDay.
November 1 is National Brush Day!
It’s no coincidence that this day falls the day after Halloween. National Brush Day began in 2013 to remind kids and parents about the importance of brushing their teeth for two minutes, twice a day. So brush away and share with #NationalBrushDay.
This should really be every day, but December 18 is Answer the Telephone like Buddy the Elf Day!
People are encouraged to answer the phone like Will Ferrell’s character Buddy the Elf in the 2003 Christmas classic, Elf. Just in case you’re not well-versed in this area, that means answering with “(Insert your Name) the Elf, what’s your favorite color?”
You can share your experience (which should really be documented on video) with #AnswerThePhoneLikeBuddyTheElfDay.
