New podcast by Miguel Bernas to feature ‘quicksilver’ industry figures
Prominent marketing consultant Miguel Bernas has launched a podcast that will feature veteran industry figures talking about the ‘second act’ of their careers after the age of 60.
The first episode features ad industry veteran Dave McCaughan, most recently founder of Bangkok-based marketing consultancy Bibliosexual.
“The Quicksilver Generation Podcast” launches today to address the growing demand for an often-underrepresented audience segment, senior citizens or people of “retirement” age, often referred to as the “Silver” generation. The series presents conversations with interesting personalities from across the region, all featuring men and women over 60 who continue to innovate, achieve success and grow their careers beyond the traditional “retirement” age.
“The podcast idea came from what I observed to be an inconsistency between how people over 60 are portrayed in the media and the people in that age group that I personally knew,” says show creator, host and producer Miguel Bernas, experienced marketer and founder of media & marketing consultancy Timber Wolf Media.
“On television and in advertising, people in their 60s or older are often portrayed as confused, technologically illiterate and emotionally isolated. “On the contrary, some of the most interesting people I have worked with and count among my friends are some of the most vibrant and fascinating people I know.
“They’re people who are continuing to learn new things, reinventing themselves and moving their careers in all kinds of interesting directions. They should be celebrated as role models, not ‘retirees’ whose contributions to society are winding down.”
The pilot episode is an interview with Dave McCaughan, ad industry veteran and founder of Bangkok-based marketing consultancy Bibliosexual, who has done extensive research and is an authority on the generation he refers to as “New Life Builders.”
The Quicksilver Generation Podcast aims to better represent the generation, while also calling attention to their value as a market. Bernas adds, “This age group also represents a segment with high spending power and more control over their leisure time in which to spend it. While the advertising industry disproportionately devotes all its attention towards the potential of Millennial and Gen-Z consumers, here is a sector that already has the means to enjoy life.
The creative team behind The Quicksilver Generation Podcast includes former magazine editor and bestselling author, Noelle Q De Jesus, with content marketing entrepreneur and Click2View founder, Simon Kearney, and former journalist and communications executive, Jennifer Alejandro, serving as creative advisers. The first 10-episode season will feature interviews with Singaporean veteran journalist and author PN Balji and book publisher Fong Hoe Fang.
New episodes will drop fortnightly and listeners may subscribe for free on popular podcast platforms by visiting www.quicksilvergeneration.com. The team also plans to launch an e-newsletter complementing the podcasts, to inspire, entertain and inform this audience, helping them maximize the possibilities of this “second act” stage of their careers.
