HomeGoods Pastel Bohemian Office Makeover
This post is sponsored by HomeGoods. As always, all opinions are my own.
My latest project with my favorite partner, HomeGoods, might be my favorite one yet. One: because it meant I could do something nice for my sister, who wanted some help creating a cozy, pastel, soft bohemian home office for herself. Two: because I can’t get enough of this before and after. It’s NIGHT AND DAY.
Before: a dark, windowless room that was painted several shades of brown many years ago, had fake wood paneling, and popcorn ceilings.
After: a light and airy room that will make you forget it doesn’t have any natural light because the new light sources are cozy (although I do want to add a bit more ambient light, down the line!) and welcoming. We didn’t do any major renovations, just added some fresh paint, removed the popcorn, and put in a new fan. We chose a creamy hue with blush undertones vs a pure white, to keep things from being too sterile. Everything else is just the frosting on the cake: the decor from HomeGoods completely transformed the space.
Storage was important for this project, so we replaced her mismatched clear bins with a variety of more attractive, woven baskets from the storage section at HomeGoods. The larger ones hold mailing supplies and seasonal items, while the small ones are great for cables, craft supplies, and smaller odds and ends.
The small task lamp was under $25 and comes in handy in this windowless room, and of course we got several of the pink vases I was raving about on stories. They look like art!
I love creating little vignettes. That gorgeous pink vase with the dried pampas grass was from my tea party, but it needed to live in this space, so I gave it to my sister. She picked out the cute little giraffe ($12.99!) and mini (faux) succulent. I added the framed print to give it some extra color and depth. We did a lot of faux plants in here, since there are no windows.
At right, we have the blanket ladder — one of Amanda’s requests and an easy thing to deliver, since HomeGoods had several options! You know I have a soft spot for the blanket section at HomeGoods. I think it’s unparalleled in price and options. We picked out 3 beautiful throws — I have the same one that’s at the top! The peacock chair (also from HomeGoods) was from my previous apartment, but I didn’t have a space for it in the new house. It fit in here perfectly, and we found a little shag rug for the base. The pillow is also from HomeGoods, as is the small storage basket. The shawl belonged to our great grandma.
This wall needed something, so we headed to the art section and found a few pieces to make a mini gallery wall. The larger piece on the left reminded me of a geode, and I love the soft colors and textures of the pieces on the right.
I’m obsessed with the details on these pillows. I like mixing and matching pillows with similar color palettes, styles, or textures. In this case, the textures make them feel harmonious — and they bring some warmth to the vintage laundry bench. On the right, we found the perfect gold, hanging planters to bring some shine to the room.
Lulu and Wiggles love their new beds (and the cozy new rugs!). We found the beds in the pet section at HomeGoods for $24.99 each. The rug was under $60 and ties in all the colors in the room. I wanted a low pile rug to offset all the shaggy textures I added as accents.
We used a storage basket as a planter for this fake plant, and added a tapestry on the wall to introduce more texture. The brass cat and globe were last minute additions that we saw and loved!
Left: a giraffe planter and framed tapestry from HomeGoods, next to a thrifted vase. Right: Macramé planters from HomeGoods.
I’m thrilled with how this room turned out but more importantly, my sister loves it! I had so much fun putting this together, since it’s different from my usual style. It felt like a bit more of a fun challenge to think outside of my own preferences — and once it was done, I loved it so much. Thanks so much to HomeGoods for partnering with me on this bohemian office makeover.
