Kathryn Gin Lum Named Coeditor of The Library of Religious Biography Series
Historian Kathryn Gin Lum has joined the editorial team for Eerdmans long-running Library of Religious Biography (LRB) series. Gin Lum, a leading scholar of religious history, will work closely with fellow series editors Heath Carter and Mark Noll. Executive Editor David Bratt will continue to oversee the series for Eerdmans.
The LRB series began in 1991 with a biography of George Whitefield called The Divine Dramatist. Since then it has grown to include religious biographies of such diverse figures as Abraham Lincoln, Emily Dickinson, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Robert E. Lee, and, most recently, Kathryn Kuhlman.
“We at Eerdmans are honored that Kathryn has agreed to help us in our efforts to bring a broad range of good religious biographies to our readers,” said David Bratt. “She is a careful and penetrating scholar and a rising star in the field of religious history. We have been blessed with strong leadership in the series for almost thirty years, and we’re convinced that Kathryn is just the right person to continue and expand that tradition.”
Kathryn Gin Lum’s outstanding scholarship in nineteenth-century history and the history of race and religion . . . make her an ideal person for strengthening Eerdmans’s commitment to publishing biographies of significant religious figures.” – Mark A. Noll
Mark Noll commented, “Kathryn Gin Lum’s outstanding scholarship in nineteenth-century history and the history of race and religion, combined with a stellar record as teacher and editor, makes her an ideal person for strengthening Eerdmans’s commitment to publishing biographies of significant (and interesting) religious figures.”
“With Kathryn Gin Lum joining the team, the future of the Library of Religious Biography looks bright indeed,” added Heath Carter. “As one of the nation’s leading religious historians, she has her finger on the pulse of the field. The addition of her expertise and leadership means that the series’ reputation for publishing crossover books of the very highest caliber is secure for a long time to come.”
