Longines - Ultra-Chron
Longines is launching today the Ultra-Chron, a new three-hand timepiece that ticks at 10 beats a seconds (36,000 vibrations per hour corresponding to a frequency of 5 Hz) with chronometric precision.
This new model is inspired to the original Ultra-Chron dating back to 1968, the first dive watch to be equipped with a high-frequency movement.
The original Ultra-Chron - 1968
The 43 mm x 13.60 mm cushion-shaped case in stainless steel is equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel enhanced by a sapphire insert with luminescent accents. Screwed-in caseback and crown contribute to make the watch waterproof up to 30 bar (300 metres / 1,000 feet).
Protected by a sapphire glass box with anti-reflective coating on both sides, the black grained dial features a white minute track with alternating Super-LumiNova-coated batons and rhodium plated appliques.
Super-LumiNova is also used for the hands, rhodium-plated for the hour and red for the minutes. The original Ultra-Chron logo is applied on the dial as well as being embossed on the caseback.
The Ultra-Chron is powered by the self-winding Calibre L836.6 featuring a silicon balance spring and offering a power reserve of 52 hours. This movement is referred to as "high-frequency" because its balance spring oscillates at 36,000 beats per hour delivering improved precision. Its accuracy is certified as an "ultra chronometer" by TIMELAB, an independent testing laboratory in Geneva. More stringent than the usual "chronometer" certification, this process includes a 15-day testing period with the watch submitted to a series of tests at three temperatures (8°, 23° and 38°) confirming that it meets the strict precision criteria as per the ISO 3159:2009 standard.
Delivered in a special wooden presentation box that includes an additional NATO strap crafted from recycled material, the new Longines Ultra-Chron is available with a choice of a leather strap (ref. L2.8188.8.131.52) or a 7-link stainless steel bracelet (ref. L2.8184.108.40.206) with prices of Euro 3,080 and Euro 3,340, respectively. longines.com
