Rackard Cup draw details confirmed

The draw was made today for this year’s Nicky Rackard Cup, hurling’s fourth tier Championship in which we’ll once again be competing this summer.
Last year we lost out narrowly in the decider to Donegal and that’s who we face first in this year’s competition. I’d always thought that the Rackard winners compete at Christy Ring level the following year – that’ll certainly be the case next year for whoever wins the Rackard Cup this year but, for whatever reason, Donegal didn’t move up following their win over us in last year’s final.
There are just five counties in the hunt for the trophy this year. The competition format consists of two groups, with Donegal, Leitrim and ourselves in Group A while Armagh and Tyrone are in Group B.
For the group stages, it’s a case of everyone is a winner. The top two teams in Group A advance to the semi-final stage while the third placed team goes forward to the quarter-final. The winner of Group B also gets a semi-final berth and the loser gets a quarter-final spot. Then it’s knockout from there to the finish.
Our opening round group match against Donegal is on the weekend of 26/27 June while our second round tie against Leitrim is on the weekend of 3/4 July.
