Report: Burnley rival Nottingham Forest for 27-year-old, Cooper desperately wants him
Burnley are set to rival Nottingham Forest for the signing of Jed Wallace in the summer, according to Football League World.
The Reds had several bids rejected for the 27-year-old during the January transfer window, with Millwall standing firm on their £9 million valuation.
Wallace missed the whole of January through a thing injury. Some of the more critical Lions fan base felt that he wasn't injured and was instead preparing himself for a move.
That wasn't the case though and he played a part in both Millwall goals during a 2-0 win over QPR in midweek.
Wallace has been a real stalwart for the South Londoners. He's played close to 250 times for the club, scoring 41 goals and registering 44 assists.
His contract is up in the summer though and the club is now in a perilous position, with the forward set to leave for free.
That has alerted several clubs to his availability. Leeds, Forest and Middlesbrough were interested in January and now Burnley are in the mix.
Sean Dyche has a proud history of plucking players from the Championship and if they remain in the Premier League, the move could appeal to Wallace.
Forest will remain in the mix. It has been claimed since the window closed that Steve Cooper is hellbent on signing Wallace on a free in the summer.
Quality: Forest can't lose out on Wallace
The versatile performer would represent an astonishing piece of business on a free transfer. As a result, Forest must act to get this deal over the line when the window reopens.
It proved a frustrating pursuit of Wallace in January. Forest felt they'd done a deal at one point but ultimately, Millwall dug their heels in.
Cooper did recruit well last month. A forward will almost certainly be the summer priority though. With that in mind, Wallace would be a useful start to the club's summer business.
