Report: Lakers’ Dennis Schroder out 10-14 days due to NBA’s health and safety protocols

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Dennis Schroder is set to miss at least 10-14 days due to the NBA’s health and safety protocols, according to Shams Charania and Bill Oram of The Athletic. With just eight games left, this means Schroder could miss the remainder of the regular season.

Schroder missed Sunday’s 121-114 loss to the Toronto Raptors. The Lakers are 0-5 this season without the German point guard in the lineup. While the veteran floor general missed the game, Raptors star Kyle Lowry absolutely destroyed Los Angeles, going for 37 points.

The Lakers have lost three straight games and six of seven. They’ve slumped down to the No. 6 spot in the Western Conference, sharing a identical 36-28 record with the fifth-seeded Dallas Mavericks and seventh-seeded Portland Trail Blazers. These teams will battle the rest of the way in an effort to avoid the dreaded No. 7 seed and a spot in the play-in tournament.

Making matters worse is that LeBron James’ ankle is still bothering him. He had to leave the loss to the Raptors late in the game, and now there are tough tilts coming up this week against the Denver Nuggets (Tuesday), Los Angeles Clippers (Thursday), Blazers (Friday) and Phoenix Suns (Sunday).

This is a brutal stretch of games to play without Schroder and perhaps without LeBron as well. Anthony Davis has struggled in his return from his own injury issues, so he’s really going to have to step up his play in order for Los Angeles to not fall down the standings into that play-in tournament.

Schroder has been a key component for the Lakers all season long. The 27-year-old is averaging 15.5 points, 5.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 32.2 minutes per game. He’s shooting 43.8% from the field and 33.5% on 3-pointers.
