Report: Nottingham Forest park pursuit of 27-year-old, deal now considered off

Nottingham Forest will not be signing Jed Wallace from Millwall before tonight's transfer deadline, according to The Guardian journalist Will Unwin.

The Reds had hoped to breach the resolve of the Lions prior to tonight's cut-off. Instead, the club will now go on the lookout for another attacking option instead.

Wallace is out of contract in the summer. The Reds have seen no fewer than four bids rejected for the 27-year-old but the Lions have stood firm.

They do now stand to lose their influential player for free. Having cost just £350,000, however, the South Londoners have more than got their worth out of Wallace.

He has missed the last month through injury, although he's thought to be on the mend and should be back playing pretty soon.

Wallace has scored five goals and registered six assists for the Lions this season. He's comfortably their best player and keeping him makes for a decent transfer window.

The versatile forward would have been ideal for Forest. He can play in a number of positions in the attack and is probably at the peak of his powers.

Forest should return for Wallace in the summer

The Reds have been right not to up the ante too much in the quest to sign Wallace. After all, he is out of contract in the summer and that means he will cost nothing at that point.

Forest must now turn attention to other players. Time is ticking on the January transfer window and it's fair to say another attacker is required.

  • DEAL: Forest set to sign striker

Josh Bowler at Blackpool has been an option. Now, it remains to be seen whether or not, Forest will go gung-ho for his signature before tonight's deadline.

Forest signing Wallace will have to wait until the summer.
