REVIEW: Space 220’s NEW Menu Items in EPCOT Might Be the BEST Ones Yet
Did you know that you can eat in SPACE in Disney World? (And no, we’re not talking about the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser hotel). We’re referring to Space 220 in EPCOT, which is located in the World Discovery section of this park! At this restaurant, you’ll board an elevator and head “220 miles above the Earth” to eat your meal in space.
We’ve already eaten just about everything on the menu here for lunch, dinner, and the lounge, but now Disney has added some brand NEW items! Are the latest eats enough to tempt you to make a reservation? Spoiler alert: there’s one dish in particular that we think will be a BIG hit with many guests. Like we said, Space 220 is located in EPCOT, and it’s a space-themed restaurant (in case you didn’t get that from the name ). The concept is that you’re eating at the Centauri Space Station, which is orbiting the planet 220 miles above Earth. Some of our favorite things here in the past have been the Blue Moon Cauliflower appetizer, the Filet Mignon dinner entrée, and the Seared Tuna lunch entrée. But let’s head in to see the NEW options and see if these can de-throne our existing top choices.
Normally you do need a reservation to have lunch or dinner at Space 220. You can also make a reservation to eat at the Lounge (where you can still order a full prix fixe meal), but sometimes you’re able to join the walk-up waitlist and eat at the Lounge without a reservation. That’s what we did today.
We headed to Space 220 before it opened at 11:30AM in EPCOT. We waited in line outside and were fortunate enough to get on the list and be seated right when the restaurant opened.
Once you’re inside, you’ll stop by the host desk and be given a ticket to board the elevator, which will take you into space!
The elevator has views of Earth as you ascend up to the dining room.
Once you get there, you’ll find large windows looking out on Earth. Be sure to watch for exciting things happening outside these windows — sometimes you can see astronauts floating by or even having a lightsaber battle!
The dining room has standard tables and chairs, as well as some booths. The floor has various levels so that everyone in the room can get a view of the “windows,” but if you’re looking for the best view, ask to be seated right next to a window.
Walkups are usually seated at the bar, which is where we ate our meal today.
Even at the bar, you can order a full meal.
All the meals at Space 220 are prix fixe, unless you opt for only lounge bites instead. That means you’ll pay one set price for the meal, which includes an appetizer, entrée, and drink (excluding alcohol and specialty drinks — those cost extra). Lunch costs $55 per adult and $29 per child. Adults can choose from the appetizers…
…and entrées to build their meal.
And kids get to choose an entrée…
…and drink for their meal.
If you’re at the lounge, you can also order some small plates off the “Flight Bites” menu, which is where you’ll find one of the new dishes!
There are also some options for alcoholic drinks if you’re in the mood for a cocktail. There are a couple of new options on this menu, and we’ll be giving both a try today.
And there are some wines, brews, and mocktails available as well.
We’re ready to dig in!
We started off with a couple of the new drinks, including the Orion Old Fashioned for $17 and the Stratosphere Strawberry Lemonade for $16. The Orion cocktail is made with Buffalo Trace, Grand Marnier, and Chocolate Bitters, and it’s not just your typical Old Fashioned. It’s not muddled with a cherry or orange flavor, and we loved the chocolate bitters in this drink.
The bitters weren’t an overpowering flavor, but you could definitely taste them. They added more depth of flavor to the cocktail, and we thought it was delicious.
The Stratosphere is made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Cointreau, Thyme Simple Syrup, Strawberry, and Fresh Lemon Juice. This drink is VERY fresh! The fruit flavor doesn’t taste artificial, and it’s not overly sweet either.
The sugared rim adds some sweetness, but overall it’s just very refreshing. We could taste the vodka, but it’s not super strong, so if you like more mild drinks, this is a good option. Plus isn’t it just so pretty? This is definitely an Instagram-able cocktail. Overall we really enjoyed these new drinks, and we’d definitely get them again (especially that Old Fashioned!).
There were also some new dessert cocktails, including the Lunar Eclipse for $14. This is House-Made Whipped Cream infused with Maker’s Mark Bourbon, finished table-side with a Double Shot of Espresso. The fun thing about this drink is that they’ll pour it at your table, so you get to see it being made! Our server brought the whipped cream first…
…and then finished the drink with the double shot of espresso.
This drink tasted mostly like espresso at first, but we could detect a hint of bourbon as well. As the whipped cream melts into the drink, that bourbon flavor gets more and more prominent, since it’s infused in the cream.
We really enjoyed this cocktail! It’s a little bit unusual, which makes it a fun option at a space-themed restaurant. If you enjoy espresso and bourbon separately, we think you like them even more together in this drink.
The other new dessert cocktails include an Espresso Martini for $16 and the Launch Pad 39 for $17. The Espresso Martini is made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Tuaca, Chilled Espresso, House Made Whipped Cream Float, and Dark Chocolate Shavings. The Launch Pad is made with Buffalo Trace Bourbon, House Made Caramel Sauce, Espresso, Steamed Milk, and Baking Spices, topped with Whipped Cream
We began our meal with the new option on the Lounge menu, the Shrimp Cocktail. This is U 10 Shrimp served with a Classic Horseradish Cocktail Sauce for $24. So it’s a pretty standard shrimp cocktail!
Anyone who enjoys shrimp cocktail will love this one. There are four HUGE shrimp (we mean that — these shrimp are massive, y’all) and a decent helping of sauce
The shrimp were served ice-cold, and they tasted very fresh. There’s a lemon wedge on the side, but we didn’t even need to use it because the flavors were already so fresh.
The flavors from the sauce were just like a normal cocktail sauce, and it went very well with the shrimp. We also tried a shrimp dipped in the Roasted Pepper Citrus Aïoli (which is served on the side of the Starry Calamari appetizer), and it was super tasty as well! Overall, this is a great option for anyone who loves a shrimp cocktail, but it’s not the most exciting or unique dish on the menu here.
We also tried out the Space Greens appetizer, which saw a few changes recently. Previously, this salad had dried cranberries, roasted pears, spiced pecans, and an apple cider dressing. Now, it still has the Spiced Pecans and Apple Cider Dressing, but it is made with Compressed Watermelon instead of pears and cranberries. The Bibb Lettuce stayed the same as well.
We loved this salad! It’s super fun that you can see similar lettuce being grown in the restaurant (near the entrance) and then sit down and have it on your plate as well.
And the sweetness from the watermelon works very well with the fresh Apple Cider vinaigrette. The pecans added some great texture and a slightly earthy flavor, and the whole thing tasted fresh and bright. If you’re planning on getting a heavier entrée, we think this salad is a great idea to start off with a light bite.
The only thing we didn’t like about the salad is that you have to cut up the lettuce to eat it (because it’s served as a few large pieces rather than lots of smaller pieces). That can make it a little bit awkward to eat, but it didn’t affect the taste.
For our entrées, we tried all the new options, including the Steak Frites, Spaceghetti & Shrimp, Steak Salad, and Quinoa Burger. The Steak Frites are cooked in a Coffee Space Rub Flat Iron and served with Chimichurri sauce on top. Fries and Broccolini are served on the side.
All we can say about this dish is WOW. Seriously this is one of the best things we’ve had here! This is what we were talking about earlier when we said that one dish is really going to stand out to most guests. If you’re a fan of steak, this should definitely be high on your list of things to try in Disney World.
We ordered ours medium-rare, and it was cooked perfectly to that order. It was deliciously tender and not over-seasoned while still packing plenty of flavor. The chimichurri sauce was very fresh and delicious. It didn’t overpower the steak, since there was just a little bit drizzled over the top. So even if you don’t enjoy the flavor of that sauce, it’s not difficult to remove.
The broccolini on the side was very yummy as well! It had a little bit of a crunch to it, and we could tell it had been sautéed in butter (which never hurts!).
And we were also given a very generous helping of french fries on the side! These were pretty thin fries, and we thought they were nicely salted as well. Nothing super special, but still delicious fries. They came with a side of ketchup.
The Spaceghetti & Shrimp (fantastic name, by the way) is another new entrée here. It’s made with Sauteed Shrimp, Spaghetti, Cherry Tomatoes, Basil, and Garlic Beurre Blanc.
We thought this was very good! The pasta is light and super buttery, but it didn’t have a ton of flavor on its own besides butter. So when you take a bite of the pasta with a little piece of shrimp and tomato, the flavors from the meat and veggies really shine through.
The garlic was not overpowering in this dish, but we could still taste hints of it in the shrimp especially. If you’re not a fan of garlic, there really wasn’t enough to make this a no-go for you.
Although we enjoyed the pasta, we have to say that we’ll definitely get the Steak Frites over it when we return. They’re the same price (since it’s a prix fixe meal), and that steak was just amazing! But if you love pasta or for those who eat a pescatarian diet, this is a very solid option as well.
The next new entrée is the Steak Salad, which has Marinated Filet Tips, Iceberg Wedges, Cucumber, Cherry Tomatoes, Chives, a Blue Cheese Crumble, and a drizzle of Horseradish Dressing. This is basically a wedge salad that’s been topped with filet pieces.
The steak was cooked very well (ours was about medium-well), and it was also nicely seasoned with a little bit of garlic and oregano. The Horseradish Dressing was very good, and it added a bit of spiciness to the dish. The blue cheese mellowed that flavor out a little, and we thought that the flavors were all balanced together nicely. The blue cheese flavor was pretty strong, so you may want to skip this dish if you don’t like that kind of cheese.
The lettuce and veggies were very crisp and fresh, and we enjoyed it overall! We could’ve used a little more steak on top to make it a bit more filling (and to get the most of that $55 price tag). For the price, we probably will go with a different entrée next time, but we still really enjoyed this salad.
And our final entrée was the Quinoa Burger, which is the new vegan option on the menu! This burger has a Quinoa-Vegetable Patty, Baby Arugula, Tomato, and Yellow Beet Citrus Mayonnaise. It also comes with a side of potato wedge fries.
This burger surprised us by being super flavorful and moist! Some other quinoa burgers we’ve had have been a little dry, but this one definitely wasn’t. Don’t expect the “impossible meat” flavor here — this burger has a strong vegetable flavor that features black beans and is supported by quinoa. We actually really like that, because we don’t always love the fake meat taste.
There are also a lot of citrus notes in the burger from the mayonnaise sauce, and that brightens the flavor of the whole dish. The bun was a little bit dry by itself, but overall the whole thing was very tasty. If you’re looking for a plant-based option, we think this is a great choice!
The fries are nicely seasoned with a little bit of salt and pepper, and there’s a side of ketchup as well.
Although extra sides aren’t included in the cost of the prix fixe meal, we had to try one of the new sides on the menu, the Roasted Carrots. These are available for $10 if you want to add them to your meal. And honestly, these carrots were one of our favorite things that we ate here! We were skeptical about paying $10 for carrots, but y’all. These were WORTH IT. They’re roasted in plenty of butter, and they’re tri-colored carrots rather than just normal ones.
There was a little bit of a crunch on top (which might have been some quinoa) and they’re seasoned with garlic and parsley. The carrots were very flavorful, and they had a good amount of sweetness to them. Even though we could taste the sweetness, the dominant flavor was still that garlic butter.
We can’t sing enough praises about these carrots (which isn’t a sentence we ever thought we’d say). If you’re eating at Space 220 and enjoy carrots or just veggies in general, we think these could be a must-try!
We might be stuffed from all of those new entrées, but we can’t forget about dessert! There are a couple of new dessert items here, including the Coconut Panna Cotta for $14 and Short Cake for $14. The Coconut Panna Cotta is made with Coconut Cream, Citrus Lychee, Raspberries, and Coconut Meringue. It’s also gluten-friendly.
We loved this dessert! Each of the elements is very tasty on its own, and together they’re taken to a whole other level.
Obviously, you need to enjoy coconut flavors in order to like this dessert. It’s very refreshing and light, and we think it’s a great dessert for springtime. Of the new desserts, this one was probably our favorite because of the variety of flavors.
The Short Cake is a Matcha Air Cake with a Mascarpone Mousse and Strawberries.
This dessert was very tasty, and we especially loved the flavor combination of strawberry with matcha. On its own, the strawberry mousse wasn’t really anything special, but combined with the matcha flavor, it was a lot more interesting.
In general, we thought it was a really fun take on a classic strawberry shortcake.
And this dessert is definitely one of the prettiest available. The little sugar decal on top is kind of giving us Soul vibes. Can you see it?
In general, we thought the new eats at Space 220 were a hit! A manager came by and told us that they’d updated the menu in order to reflect the change in seasons, and we think the chefs hit the nail right on the head. The flavors are mostly light and fresh (especially in those new desserts), and there are a lot of spring- and summer-type flavors.
We definitely miss the Sticky Toffee Pudding that used to be on the dessert menu here, but it makes sense that the lighter desserts would replace that heavier option now that winter is over.
The new Steak Frites and Roasted Carrots were definitely highlights for us, and we won’t say no to that Coconut Panna Cotta either! The service was excellent when we were here, and our bartender was super nice and friendly.
We do want to note that $55 for lunch is still a pretty hefty price tag when there are so many great options in EPCOT. If you want the experience of dining in “space” and think that some of these dishes look amazing, it could be well worth it! But be sure to check out some other dining options in EPCOT as well before your trip to make sure that this is where you want to spend your money.
