The Role of Physiotherapy in Paediatrics | Updated Physiopedia Resources
At the end of every month, there is always a buzz in Physiopedia and lots of talk about what we will choose for the next month’s Topic of the Month (TOTM).
Physiopedia is a resource that is dedicated to sharing evidence-based physiotherapy / physical therapy knowledge with the global healthcare community. There are over 4,000 pages packed full of information from conditions to treatments. These pages are created and reviewed by a team of volunteers and to ensure that our pages are continually reviewed each month the team chooses a topic to focus on.
It is always difficult to choose a topic to focus on but the team were in total agreement this month, they chose to explore the category of Paediatrics. Paediatric physiotherapy is the assessment, early intervention and treatment of babies and young children. The need for treatment may be due to neurological and developmental delays as well as children who experience trauma and injury related to everyday activities and sports injuries!
Physiopedia has lots of pages on this topic so whether you are looking to learn more about a condition, looking for a particular outcome measure or the latest assessment and examination you will find a page to guide you.
The team came together to discuss if there were any pages that needed creating and also pages that needed to be reviewed. When reviewing pages the team check for recent research to make sure we have the latest evidence and videos and images to supplement and improve the learning experience.
But don’t take my word for it, you can see some of the pages our team created and reviewed below:
- Joubert Syndrome
- Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
- Paediatric Spinal Cord Injury
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Spondylolysis in Young Athletes
- WHO Developmental Milestones
- Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Osteoarthritis in Young People
This is just a brief list of all the pages that were created and reviewed this month. Why not find a quiet corner, grab a cup of coffee, and have a browse through our categories on Paediatrics and the Younger Athlete there are too many pages to discuss them all here!
We aim to review as many pages as possible each month and create pages that are needed but if you see pages that need improving or creating, not just on the topic of the month, please feel free to contact us with your comments. Physiopedia is a resource created by physiotherapists for physiotherapists. Your feedback is necessary and always welcome.
