The weekend’s matches

Friday has rolled around once again and this weekend there are three Mayo matches – including a real biggie – taking place. Two of these are on tomorrow and the other one is on Sunday.

First up tomorrow are the Mayo Masters. The greybeards (I’m allowed to use that term seeing as I currently sport one of those myself) take on Galway in Round 2 of the Masters Championship, a match that’s fixed for the Amenity Park in Swinford at 1.30pm tomorrow. Then, up at Croke Park at 5pm tomorrow, the hurlers are in action in what is arguably the biggest hurling Championship match the county has ever contested. They’re in the Christy Ring Cup final, where they’re up against raging hot favourites Kildare, with the winners of this title also gaining entry to the second tier Joe McDonagh Cup for 2023.

Tickets for Croke Park (where the Meagher and Rackard Cup deciders are also being contested tomorrow) are available to purchase here. The match is also being broadcast live on TG4.

On Sunday, there’s more small ball action but this time it’s the Mayo camogie team who will be in the thick of it. They’re in the Premier Junior Championship this summer and their campaign gets underway on Sunday with a match against Clare.

In what’s a great development for them, this match has been fixed for Cusack Park in Ennis – what a happy hunting ground that has proved to be for Mayo teams down the years – where it’s the curtain-raiser for the Clare/Waterford Munster SHC clash.

The camogie match gets underway at 2pm and the hurling game – with Brian Lohan’s high-flying Bannermen already guaranteed their place in the Munster decider against Limerick – throws in at 4pm. Tickets for Cusack Park on Sunday are available to purchase here.
