Verbatim 4-Port PD 100W Charger

The next item I have from Verbatim is the Verbatim 4-Port PD 100W Charger. It is available in Black and White.

It retails for S$109 on Shopee.

This is a 4-Port 100W GaN charger that comes with two USB-C ports and two USB-A ports. It supports both USB PD 3.0 and QC 3.0.

I have the white for this post. The design is in matte white, which makes it feels plasticky. Since it is meant to be a wall plug, it comes with an EU plug. Though I wish it is a UK plug instead of as it will take up less height.

It comes with the Singapore Safety Mark. That indicates that the product has been tested and certified to be compliant with the relevant safety standards. Most chargers that are shipped directly from China, do not bear this mark.

For subsequent batches, the Singapore Safety Mark will be printed on the charger itself rather than it being a sticker.

In terms of output, if only one USB-C port is in use, it can output a maximum of 100W. When both USB-C ports are in use, the maximum output of C1 is 60W, and C2 is 45W. The maximum combined output of both USB-A ports is 18W.

I tested this charger with my MacBook Pro 15.4″ and it works as expected. macOS is able to detect the input as 100W when I am only using C1.

If you notice, that C2 has a marking called PPS. That stands for Programmable Power Supply and is part of USB PD 3.0 specifications. I would say it is the USB version of Qualcomm Quick Charge (QC). QC is a proprietary charging protocol by Qualcomm, whereas PPS is an open standard charging protocol by USB-IF (USB Implementers Forum). It seems only selected Samsung devices (Samsung Galaxy S20, Samsung Note 10, Samsung S20 ultra, and Samsung S21) support PPS. You can read more about it here.

The charger is still compact, measuring at 113.6 x 31.2 x 60 (mm), and weighs 204 g.

Compared to the Ugreen 65W GaN Triple USB-C Plus USB-A Charger, the Verbatim 4-Port PD 100W Charger is slightly longer and slightly thinner.
