Walk-up COVID-19 clinic and education will be offered weekly at North SIde Farmers’ Market beginning May 21

Beginning tomorrow, May 20, Pittsburghers will be able to get a COVID-19 vaccine at the same place they buy their apples and carrots.

The new walk-up vaccination site at the North Side Farmers Market will offer the one-shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine to anyone over the age of 18. The clinic, sponsored by the Northside Leadership Conference and the Northside Christian Health Center, will run weekly from 3-6 p.m.

The clinic is part of the NSLC’s “Place to Start” health outreach program, according to a press release. “We wanted to remove barriers and take the vaccine right to our neighbors,” said the NSLC’s Lauren DeDomenic. “No registration, scheduling or names are required. It’s one shot, and it’s free.” 

While the J&J shot is the only one offered at the market, you can set up an appointment with Allegheny General Hospital for the Pfizer or Moderna shots.

Health professionals can also answer any questions or concerns people may have about COVID or the vaccines.

“A Place to Start” was created by NSLC to take health outreach to the community. While the current focus is on vaccinations, later this summer, A Place to Start will offer help scheduling routine health screenings and appointments, nutrition education and mental health outreach. 

“If you want to live healthier, you just need A Place to Start,” says DeDomenic.

The Northside Farmers Market is located in the Allegheny Commons at Cedar Ave and East Ohio St, and is open Fridays 3-7PM. A Place to Start is located in the market and is open 3-6PM.
