We don’t think our 15-year-old gay grandson should stay over with his best friend

DEAR DEIDRE: WE don’t think our 15-year-old gay grandson should stay over with his best friend when lockdown is relaxed.

It wasn’t a shock when he said he was gay but his friend is 16 and recently told his parents he’s bisexual.

My grandson told my daughter he’s kissed this friend and she no longer wants them to have sleepovers, which they’ve done for years.

I’m concerned that if my daughter puts her foot down, my grandson will think there’s something wrong with being gay.

But we are all worried about underage sex.

Guy won't break lockdown rules to visit his mistress

DEIDRE SAYS: You are right to be concerned, whether early sex is with a boy or a girl.

Your grandson has said he is gay – which he may well be – but giving himself a label isn’t necessary in his teens.

Heightened hormones and having unstable friendships can add to the confusion.

This and thoughts about our sexuality settle down with maturity.

His mum should talk with him about sex and looking after himself.

My Underage Sex support pack will give her guidance to start the conversation.
