Nintendo have released a new firmware update for the Switch, firmware 12.0.0. For once, this is not a mere “stability” update, but an update that also fixes actual bugs, related to save backups. From the official changelog:
We fixed the issue with the save data backup feature, where in rare cases, the automatic backup of save data is interrupted if a communication error occurs during completion of the save data backup process.
Now, it’s unlikely that a major firmware revision only fixes bugs like the one mentioned above. But we’ll have to wait for hackers to dive into this update, before we know if anything major has changed.
In the meantime, if you’re running Atmosphere or any other CFW, we advise you against updating, at least until all the usual tools and utilities are updated to support Switch 12.0.0 (or confirmed to work “as is”).
