As you can see in the image above, this compact saw is using a blade smaller than the traditional 7-1/4″ size and uses a 4-1/2″ blade to keep the saw very compact. Worx says this is especially good for overhead use where a regular sized saw would be to cumbersome and heavy. Worx does have a more traditional size cordless circular saw of 6-1/2″, so this compact model fits a different purpose than a larger saw, namely where users would prefer a smaller lighter saw. So clearly this would not be your do all saw for cutting dimensional lumber all day long but for thinner stock like plywood, OSB, trim, MDF, etc. With it’s smaller blade comes a smaller cut capacity of 1-1/2″ which is barely enough to cut dimensional two by lumber. I’d say it can cut it but with it’s capacity maxed out, would be better suited for thinner boards and the occasional cutting of 2x lumber.
You can also think of this compact saw as a cordless version of Rockwell’s and similar Worx compact single hand circular saws. As you can see by the image, the saw is lacking a secondary handle like regular circular saws so it is more suited for one handed use. It’s compact size and weight lends to that.
Worx did give it a brushless motor which they say gives it more power and runtime which is usually expected of brushless motor powered tools. Other features include an LED light to help in low light, a dust extraction port with vacuum adapter attachment, no load RPM speed of 6900, can do bevel cuts 0-46º, its depthof cut at 45° is 1-1/8 in, 3/8 in. arbor size, and an included rip fence which they dub as a parallel edge guide.
It is priced at $99.99 as a baretool and $159.99 as a kit with bundled 2.0ah battery and charger. Whether kit or baretool form, it will be supplied with a 24-tooth carbide-tipped blade, vacuum adapter, parallel edge guide, hex key and carrying bag.
